Sick of washing the sand out of your undies after sitting on the glorious white beaches of the Gold Coast?

Want some soothing fresh water pools and rainforest instead?

Well, the Currumbin rock pools and the nearby Mt Cougal cascades and pools are a heavenly oasis. About 20 minutes west of Currumbin beach follow the signs and wind your way along beautiful Currumbin Creek, along the bizarrely named Currumbin Creek Rd.

The pools are on the left and you will spot a carpark and some picnic tables, and if its the weekend plenty of revellers. Pick a spot amongst the crowd or pick your way up the creek to a more private area. My favourite perch is just up river under the big pine trees on the grass.Spread out your picnic blanket get the olives and fetta out and soak it in. Have a dip in the cool fresh water and soothe the saltwater chafing and if you’re a Pommy tourist take some sting out of the sunburn.

But wait there’s more. A ten minute drive further west will take you to the Mt Cougal section of the Springbrook National park.

There is a sealed car park and then a five minute walk up to some beautiful waterfalls. There are rock pools here without a path to them. So I am not sure if I can recommend you go there, but we did and the water is exquisite. You can get a nice shoulder massage from the falls.

You can then head further upstream another 2 minutes on the sealed path and there is another pool and falls. This is my favourite. It is hard to describe but there is a small waterfall that collects in a small intermediate pool before flowing into a larger falls. You can actually swim in this smaller pool and duck behind the curtain. See pic!

Its a lot of fun and the setting is a beautiful rainforest and you feel worlds away from the bustling Gold Coast.

So a lovely half day in the Currumbin and Mt Cougal pools and cascades. Highly recommended!
