O’Reilly’s Box Forest Circuit

O’Reilys needs a LOT of pages to cover the whole area so I am going to try and hone in on individual walks here.

O’Reileys is awesome – its a bit of a drive – about an hour and a half from Surfers Paradise up some gnarly single lane goat tracks but it is worth it – make sure you have plenty of petrol in the car to get up the mountain – the last petrol station is at Canungra – don’t do what we did and run out on top of the mountain and have to beg the lodge to buy some of their petrol for $3 a litre!. Once you make it to the top of the mountain there is a plethora of great trails to hit. Waterfalls galore and perfect for summer when its hot and humid down on the coast you get 4-5 degrees relief up here in the mountains and keep cool under the canopy of the rainforest. It gets brass monkey cold here in Winter so dress warm!

This hike was the box forest circuit and it has got plenty of great waterfalls and is pretty cruisy with a round trip time of about 3 hours. You then have plenty of time left over to do the famous O’reilys tree top walk and catch the sun setting from the highest tree point if you can handle heights! http://www.oreillys.com.au/eco-activities/tree-top-walk

More on O’reilly’s to follow…

NB. O’reilly’s is not the actual name of the national park, it is the family name of the owners of the lodge on the mountain, but it is widely known as O’reilly’s. Technically it is the western side of the Lamington National park known as Green Mountains. It is wise to check for information regarding the condition of tracks if there has been storms recently as they can be damaged and closed by rangers. http://www.nprsr.qld.gov.au/parks/lamington/about.html
